SKC v Trinity
The First XV traveled to Bulleen on Saturday to play trinity in a practice match. With clear skies and a well kept pitch a fast and exciting game was expected. However due to poor handling the first half lacked continuity, becoming scrum orientated. SKC put Trinity on the back foot early setting a line out on Trinity’s 22. A tight strong maul off the line resulted in the first try of the game, a great pack try. The second came as a result of following the game plan and great line running and support from Jack De Guingand. Unfortunately we were unable to maintain such an intensity throughout the first half and after steering from the game plan found trinity on our try line.
Disappointed with our first half St Kevin’s came into the second half sticking to the game plan and playing a much more forward orientated game. Clever kicking from Darcy Etrich in our half and keeping the ball in hand in Trinity’s half enabled SKC to put together several phases. Hitting the ball up in the centers followed by good forward running from Tala Gray and Will Chalmers drew in the defense leaving plenty of space out wide for William Stewart to burn down the line. The inclusion of the forwards, picking off the ruck and defending well on its fringes added to SKC’s powerful recipe, blowing trinity out of the game. Final score SKC 60 – Trinity 5.
The First XV faces Scotch College next week in round 1. It is important we see a focused and committed week of training to prepare for the big game.
