SKC 2nd XV vs TGS 12/05/07
Round 2: SKC 2nd XV vs. TGS, Saturday 12th May
Eagerly awaiting a chance to make amends for last weeks less than favourable result, the gentlemen of the 2nd XV ventured forth to enemy territory in Bulleen for the second time this season. The only difference in this groundhog day esk cycle being the fact that the second match showcasing a slightly abbreviated form of rugby football.
The match started with SKC dominant from the outset, the forwards flexing their metaphorical and physical muscle, paralleled with the smart, stylish kicking of the backs. With the scrum’s being reduced to a mere rugby league cuddle, the match soon became a process of natural selection, whereby only those who adapt to the vicissitudes will survive. The St Kevin’s forward pack truly asserting their authority scoring not one, but two, yes two tries from rolling mauls off a lineout within the first half. Jeremy Corby had a field day with 3 tries to his credit due to the dominant forward play.
The second half again portrayed similar characteristics to the first with the St Kevin’s forward pack again asserting their authority upon the game, scoring yet another try off a lineout. The back’s finally impacted the scoreboard, following sustained pressure throughout the match, and James Musty’s constant hard running being rewarded with a try that secured a bonus point for SKC.
Final score SKC 20 Trinity 5.
Tries: Corby 3, Musty
The 2nd XV continue to evolve and gel as a unit, and with hard work and perseverance, the genesis can result in an extremely favourable outcome at the end of the season. Next week the team need to step up yet again and climb the giant mountain that is Xavier College.
