Under 13’s, SKC Green vs Scotch.

(2nd Round match report)

The bye in the first round meant SKC Green under 13’s missed a much needed warm up game to take on a very strong Scotch team. SKC went down 25-0, however, the game was much closer than the score suggests.

After a slow start, resulting in an early try to Scotch, SKC stepped up to the challenge and met the physical side head on. Good tackles by Elliot McNally and Luke Sist, stopped many promising raids from the Scotch team.

Our confidence rose after strong runs from John Udal, Dom Fitzgerald and Tom Hansen; putting the opposition under pressure. Chris Wright and Michael Tabatabaian were tireless in chasing the ball, while Nick Cowen played an excellent role in support. Our lineout needs extra work, however Lawrence Dempsey was outstanding at the front particularly given he was competitng against an opposition player who was at least 40 cm taller!

Scotch scored a another try in the first half to hold a 10 - nil lead at half-time. The second half was a little one sided with Scotch dominating possession and field position. The SKC side faced each challenge with strong play, led courageously by Hayden Hutchings who contested strongly in the rucks and mauls. Despite our efforts, the SKC side conceeded a further three tries but never gave up. Frazer Moy, despite receiving little ball made the most of each opportunity. Steven Piva provided good service from the scrum base which was  under considerable pressure and Palinda Perera showed great potential and enjoyed the physical contest.

This was the first game of Rugby for more than 70% of the SKC side. We had an absolute ball and look forward to improving our teamwork and understanding of the game as the season progresses.
