SKC U16 XV v Brighton Grammar U16 XV
U16’s VS Brighton Grammar
On Saturday the St Kevin’s U16’s were scheduled to play Brighton Grammar at home. The team showed up pumped to show Brighton what we had learnt while in Queensland. However, the forwards were disappointed to find out that the scrums would be uncontested due to Brighton not having a front row and a full team. So 4 of the skevies boys volunteered their services to Brighton. The game started well with an early try to James Hoogenbosch after a line break from half way. Then tragedy struck when The Referee our own Mr Hutchison was struck down by a stray kick, he quickly recovered to keep officiating the game. The next 2 tries came from Sam Browne with some strong running from the rear of the scrum. Other tries in the half were to Andrew Hunter and Jack Foster.
The Second half was a shining light for the backs attempting all their moves and trying new things out. It paid off with many line breaks to Jack Ryan and Jack Foster, but due to relentless defence, St Kevin’s could not quite score. Then Sam Browne struck again scoring under the posts. The last 2 tries of the game went to Mitchell James. In the closing minutes Brighton put all their efforts in one basket, however, they could not break the St Kevin’s defence. The scoring finished at 49 to nil. Special mention must go to the players who played for Brighton, Sam Browne for a hat trick, Jack Foster for his strong defence his try and a conversion and all the forwards for a strong show in the line outs and rucks. Tries went to Sam Browne with 3, Mitchell James 2, Jack foster, Andrew Hunter and James Hoogenbosch.
