Match Report:
Saturday the 10th of May, round two of competition saw the men from 9 Gold defeat the Grammar from Ivanhoe.
Ivanhoe came into the match with only fourteen players forcing St Kevin’s to drop our No 8 Dan Perree to the bench at the last minute and to play with fourteen men as well.
St Kevin’s got off to a great start scoring within the first five minutes. Controlling the match from the from the first whistle. St Kevin’s was able to dominate possession and territory in the first half. Unfortunately, an injury to the Ivanhoe five-eighth saw St Kevin’s pulling another player off the field. Not long after another injury forced us into a game of twelve-aside rugby. With a good play off the back of the scrum Ivanhoe managed to score down the blindside shortly before half time.
With a few pearls of wisdom from Mr James Gisbourne the men of 9 Gold were ready to improve on our first half.
Going into the second half with a focus on supporting the ball carrier St Kevin’s showed glimpses of how well we can play. Elliott Dunn (BOG) played a blinder, just too good for the Ivanhoe defence. Andrew Gilles ran perfect lines making numerous breaks against the Ivanhoe backline. Some fancy and fleet footwork from Lachie O’Brien produced a magnificent try running, ¾ of the pitch to score. Miguel showed great strength, speed and finishing to score twice with Ivanhoe bouncing off as they tried to tackle our Migs; the supporters cheering on the sidelines. Andy Taylor proved that he was too fast leaving the Ivanhoe team in his wake scoring twice as well. Great running from Ed Edginton, Dan Perree and Jeremy Crowe gave the backs a platform to work off with Steve Walsh and Henry Shirer supporting around the rucks.
A good solid performance all round with much to work on going into the next few weeks. Final score St Kevin’s 54 Vs Ivanhoe 7
