SKC RUGBY UNDER 13s
SKC rugby under 13 team pulled off an absolutely remarkable win today, beating Xavier 59-0. The grass was wet, which favored our hard tackling attitude, and Xavier were missing their two best players.
We had decided not to let our past wins go to our heads. However, it is hard not to get full of yourselves when James Tighe scores a try in the first 15 seconds of the game!
After converting the first try, Conor Utri then scored another try 2 minutes later and kicked the conversion. After 15 minutes of hard slog James O’Malley produced a try but we hit the post, then in the last play of the half James Tighe scored a try, but again we missed the conversion with a straight kick just low of the bar.
Before the game Xavier tried to intimidate us by running round the oval screaming go Xavier and cheering themselves on, but as soon as the game began we were in control. They were also quite verbal in the scrums, but our discipline allowed us to ignore these distractions.
The second half began almost identically to the first, with a try in the opening minute by James Tighe. We scored and converted five times in total, #2 by Slack 8 minutes in, # 3 by Tighe at the 12 minute mark, # 4 by Tighe 16 minutes in, and the last try was a gutsy effort by Oscar Bridgeford after 4 minutes of hard won scrimmaging at the try line.
A special mention must also go to Oscars’ run in the second half……….. he bowled over at least 5 Xavier boys to gain ground for Skevies.
End score:
59-0 to SKC.
Best players: Aidan Slack, Nick Gillies, Eamon O’Halloran, Jarred Patterson, Conor Misson
Try scorers: James Tighe 4, Aidan Slack 2, Oscar Bridgeford 1, James O’Malley 1, Conor Utri 1
