SKC 2nd XV come out victorious in trying conditions, vs Xavier at home
The Skevs 2nd Xv ventured out to Xavier college in wet and freezing condtions on early Saturday morning to play a little known Xavier 2nd XV.
After a focussed and intense warmup the boys began the game strongly as our formidable defensive work early bought about much turned over ball and the majority of the possesion in the first half. Scrum half Jehan Abeysekera and newly returned Flyhalf Sean Bree-Killingbeck set the pace early with great intenstiy and ball control in the wet conditions which was evidenced by early tries. Constructive foward play and simple ball being passed through the back line in the first half saw the 2nd XV put on much scoreboard pressure as the team put on 22 unanswered points.
The Second half brought a loss of concentration and focus for the 2nd XV, as a lack of discipline and scrappy play around the breakdown and taking the ball into contact bought much frustration for the team. Through this the team was only able to put on a single try in the second half through back rower Jerome White to add to the hard work put into the first half. The result was pleasing but a lack of commitment in the second half bought about poor scoreboard pressure. 2nd Xv eventual winners 27-0.
Best players winger Bill Stewart with some fantastic and powerful ball running, Sam Browne and Sean-Bree Killingbeck.
