Gold Rugby Match Report - Rd 5 v MGS 31 May

Opposition Team: Melbourne Grammar School

Match Result:  SKC 22  (4 tries, 1 conv) def MGS 5 (1 try)

Best Players: Jeremy Crowe (3); Michael Kinch (2); Miguel Jaanz (1)

A good win against a spirited and determined opposition, although still well short of the potential of the side. The side responded well to the pressure applied by MGS, however all players need to use their mental capacities to greater effect. Attempted adjustments to the team strategy at half time went largely unheeded, and made for a frustrating and cumbersome second half. In particular, the targeting of better channels in attack and more effective defence off the edge of the ruck, capable of reapplying pressure to the opposition, were two key facets of the match that were not well handled by the side. An effective reflection session at the end of the match allowed for attention to be given to these aspects, and for goals and standards to be reviewed and re-established.
