SKC U/16 A vs BGS, 24th May
On Saturday 24th of May St.Kevins A team came up against Brighton Grammar school. This was St.Kevins first home game this season.
The first half of the game started off well for St.Kevins with the set pieces being delivered perfectly. The forwards maintained possession of the ball which helped the backs get clean ball to perform their moves. Max Dawson scoring a great 50m try breaking through several tackles to score under the posts, making it easy for Deane Phillips. The forwards drove over the gain line almost every time they hit up which was a good morale boost. Although our body height in the rucks wasn’t to good. Unfortunately it was uncontested scrums which is our second week in a row without contested scrums. James Bounds managed to score a great try breaking through the line. Lachlan Simpson scored a try off the lineout which we tirelessly practiced all week which was good to see it finally pay off. The score at half time was 19-0 St.Kevins way.
In the second half the forwards started to get tired our body height slowly slipping away and our efforts with driving over the ball. Nick Little popped off a great ball to David Anderson on our 40 metre line with David scoring under the posts. The new found pace of Max Dawson led him scoring a try in the corner again bustling through many tackles to score. James Bounds putting pressure on Brighton Grammar with his great running skills scored another try. To finish off the game Charlie Tostevin having come up from the B’s on debut for the A’s scored a great try on the wing stepping round a player to finish the game St.Kevins winning 42-0.
This is a good win to come away with seeing we are playing Xavier this week. There are several things we came away with from this game which we can work at during training.
