U/16 A vs Xavier College

St.Kevin’s A’s came up against Xavier College on Saturday May 31st at Xavier. The team knew it would be a tough match and preparation before the game was vital. With two players coming back from injury our team looked stronger then ever.

The first half started off terribly for St.Kevins with Xavier scoring under the posts in the first 5 minutes. St. Kevin’s struck back with Tim Carman converting a penalty right in front. The forward pack’s main focus for the game was rucking over the ball. Our structure at the rucks was much better than it previously has been, ensuring clean ball out to the backs. Max Dawson catching the Xavier forwards on the back foot picked the ball from the ruck and breaking two tackles to score in the corner. James Bounds scored a try cutting inside of the outside centers inside shoulder proving it difficult for him to be tackled, scoring next to the posts, with Tim Carman converting the try. The score at the end of the half was 15-12 to St. Kevin’s.

The second half continued well for St. Kevin’s with Robert Lennon breaking through the line several times and scored a try diving over for the line, with Tim Carman converting his try. Xavier’s number two jumper was very good in the lineouts proving it hard for St.Kevin’s, stealing several balls which were at crucial times during the game. Robert Lennon scored yet again extending the lead for St.Kevins, with the end score being 27-12.

Due to the Queen’s birthday this weekend, no teams will be playing so training will be important to keep the composure and fitness before the next game.
