Skevies First’s Bounce Back for a Solid Win Against Melbourne Grammar
The lads were out-enthused by Melbourne Grammar in the first half. Skevies just couldn’t control the ball and although we kept pushing and pummelling, we couldn’t break the Grammar line and get a score on the board. Grammar were excellent at the breakdown and defended well across the pitch and this combined with our inability to nail the basics saw Grammar finish the first half 10 – 0 up. Our intensity at the ball and some of our decision making was less than acceptable.
Our second half was the complete opposite. We controlled the play and saw some great running from Josh Tyson and inspired direction from Mitch James. The Team pulled together and believed that we could win. Consequently we displayed how well we could play Rugby as a group, not as individuals. Our subs off the bench inspired us and we saw some excellent work, particularly from Billy Stewart and Jack Foster on the wings off the back of some solid defensive work by the forwards.
All-in-all a good result but we are still in pursuit of the full 70-minutes of intensive controlled rugby that we are capable of.
