First XV Defeat Carey Grammar 54 - 3
Carey was the opponent on Saturday and we were intent to come away with a win; and more importantly an improved performance. After a good warm up it was looking to be Skevs day.
However, again we had a slow start to the game. It really is the major challenge that we need to work on in the coming weeks if we are going to fulfil our goal of another premiership.
In the first half, although conceding three points to a penalty, St.Kevin’s hit back through Jack D off the back of some great phases. That started the momentum in what was to become a St.Kevin’s dominating half of rugby. Carey only came close to our line once in the half which was a credit to the defence.
Coming into the second half we had to continue the momentum and this was achieved through a full team effort. James Mustey, Charles Randles, Jordan Mitchener, Whitey and Jack Foster all came off the bench to keep the game flowing.
A flurry of tries was scored in the remainder of the half which saw St.Kevin’s home comfortable winners. Well done to all those who participated in an excellent way to finish this semester.
We will need to work hard as a unit in the coming weeks to make sure we are well prepared for the matches after the break. In order to win the premiership we will need to become a side that plays well the full 70 minutes.
