Valiant SKC First XV Downed by St.Joey’s Brisbane June 28
On Saturday 28th June, on a cold and blustery morning, a depleted St Kevin’s 1st XV took on the might of one of Australia’s great rugby schools St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace from Brisbane. Although many of the regular St Kevin’s starting XV were missing it gave other boys, including three from Year 10, the chance to step up and experience rugby at 1st XV level. The boys were determined not to let the tradition of St Kevin’s rugby down.
From the first kick-off it was clear that Gregory Terrace was a well oiled, well drilled and disciplined unit. St Kevin’s was under immense pressure and resisted for the first 15 minutes before Gregory Terrace scored their first try. Despite many fine defensive efforts by St Kevin’s, the boys from Gregory Terrace continued to score intermittently.
At the end, it was a comfortable win for Gregory Terrace on the scoreboard but as their captain said it was a very tough match played at high intensity in the true spirit of rugby in which St Kevin’s never gave up. St Kevin’s can be proud of their effort and hopefully have learnt much from the encounter which will assist us in our endeavours during the remainder of the season.
