Skevies Firsts Win 2008 VSRU (APS) Division 1

Saturday August 9 saw an eager Team out first onto the pitch and keen to complete a memorable day for St.Kevins rugby.  The team took their opportunities whenever they could, and it showed when we were up 6 nil in the first ten minutes from some excellent penalty kicking from Shaun Bree.  Late in the first half, a solid try by Will Chalmers was converted by Shaun, with a sensational kick from the sideline in the swirling breeze leading us into half time with a 13-0 margin. It was up and down the rest of the match with Scotch having us under the pump towards the end of the game.  Fortunately we were able to score (Jezza) (aka Jeremy Tait) from some excellent backline work and although Scotch scored twice to bring the margin to just six points, we managed to hold off further attacking work by Scotch to take out the flag 18 – 12.

Many thanks to all for your support throughout the year; it was a memorable day for all the boys.  Although only 15 were ever playing at one time, many contributed to make 2008 the success that it was.

At the start of the year Linz Smith said to the boys “a champion team will always beat a team of champions” – this held true.
