SKC 1st XV v. Scotch College
Wednesday, May 9th, 2007The first fifteen anticipated a very testing game against scotch for round 1 of the season. SKC, from kick off, played aggressively and enthusiastically, winning the ball early and maintaining possession for many phases to come. Matt Gittoes ensured tidy ball for the backs consistently cleaning out ruck after ruck and Jack De Guingand cut down the scotch attack laying tackles all over the pitch. Dave Hardisty was in fine form, putting great pressure on the Scotch half back and delivering quality ball to the backs. Will Chalmers and Olly Hoy ran strongly, drawing in several Scotch players on every hit up, leaving space for Darcy Etrich to do his thing and carve up the defence with his magical step. Scotch came into the second half strongly and really stuck it to us. Effectively retaining the ball, they put almost 10 phases together at one stage, leading to a solid try (some extra fitness would have been helpful here). However St Kev’s got back on top of their game, bringing the ball back into Scotch’s half and keeping it there, thanks to smart field positioning from James Kirk, catching almost all of Scotch’s field kicks and making many good decisions to put SKC back in another strong scoring position. Final score SKC 27 scotch 5.
