The SKC Fluffy Bunnies hosted a very physical SPB for the second last game of the season, which commenced at 9.15 on the Saturday morning. Yet again players from the other SKC team (the Bush Babies) had to fill in for some of our missing players.
Considering the frosty conditions SKC started well playing for about 15 minutes straight, down in SPB’s 22. After many attempts from us and some amazing defence from SPB, SKC finally crossed over for a five pointer. The remainder of the half was extremely intense but SKC was able to hold on, heading into the break 5-0 up.
After some reflection over the break SKC came back fired up and a much better side There was some great running displayed by all members of the team and the handling was pretty good considering the slippery ball. The forwards were “pick and going” well, led by a strong Palinda Perera and a fast Chris Wright. And the backs started to run good angles. Due to all this effort SKC was able to cross over for three converted tries.
However, SPB had not given up yet and still were making some great line breaks. Thankfully Lawrence Dempsey was making some huge tackles on players at least twice the size of him. In the dieing minutes a strong SPB flyhalf scored a converted try. But it was too late to give any hope to their side of changing the outcome of the match.
We still have work to do over our last week of training but all should be very pleased with this match. A great team effort and a very enjoyable game.
